I got my literature book the other day. The Betrothed, by Alessandro Manzoni. Translated into english..it's an almost 800 page novel. That is a LOT of reading! Oh how I miss the smallness of Great Expectations. Trying to figure out if you are in the right math class is harder than it would seem to be. Because you have to go through the processs of asking them if they're just going over review or if they are actually learning this. And I have to do all of this with 'review' not being in my dictionary ..piece of cake. I started my Latin class yesterday, too. I don't think it really clicked in my mind on how fr ahead in education other countries are compared to America until I sat down in my Latin class..I should have just brought my Latin teacher because I think I'll need her! Thank goodness most english words are derived from Latin or this would not be good.
Italian TV is practically exactly the same as American TV. They have the same shows we do..it is just translated into Italian so the actors' voices are all different. ..It isn't the same not hearing House's accent anymore :'( It's very weird not the here the the same voices that I am used to hearing in America..but I'm getting used to it I suppose. EVERYBODY is obsessed with House here..which I personally don't have a problem with. :) They all looooove Hello Kitty and Pooh Bear. It's weird because the things that highschoolers in America would never carry aroung because its more for little kids, every single person in Italy carries the character around of all ages.
Italians LOVE american music! It's funny when they all sing along in the car with me to music, and they dont know what thw word is they just kinda mubble what it sounds like, it is so hilarious!
The respect the students here have for their teachers is astonishing. The first day of school when I entered the room they all stud up for me, and then I got a BOUNGIORNO! and I said Ciao..but they all laughed. Probably because to them I have an 'accent' hahaha.. They recycle in Italy like no other! They have five trash cans everwhere you go for seperate recycled items. They even have a trashcan for gum..which is kind of gross when I looked at all the gum for the first time. NO BODY puts their gum underneath the desk.
